Malena & Rodan - A Love Story

Awwwww, doesn't this make you all goose-bumpy?

ZAGREB, March 25, 2010 (AFP) - A male stork proved once again that distance is no bar to true love as it flew thousands of kilometres back to its handicapped mate in a Croatian village, local media said Thursday.

This is the fifth year in a row that the stork, named Rodan, has made the epic journey of some 13,000 kilometers (8,060 miles) from South Africa to the village of Brodski Varos, in eastern Croatia, the Jutarnji List daily reported.

"This year he came a bit earlier," Stjepan Vokic, who cares for the female stork, named Malena, unable to fly since hunters shot through its wing, told the paper.

Rodan looked rather exhausted, Vokic added.

Every year the couple has raised a brood of chicks which Rodan has taught to fly since Malena cannot, Vokic said. This year is expected to be no different.

In August, Rodan and the young will start to prepare for their long journey to winter in South Africa while Malena remains in Brodski Varos until the return of its mate in the spring.

Back Bay - When Bees Attack!

Ok, maybe they were not exactly attacking, maybe they were just moving house...

Either way, thanx Mr. Anonymous Biker with the yellow jersey. You're anguished cry when you rode thru the bee swarm alerted me to the oncoming wall of buzz that I didn't hear due to the dulcet tones of Robbie Williams serenading me thru my earphones.
What do I do?
Argh!
I remember - I race swiftly away in a zig-zag manner.
So I did...& lived to tell the tale.

Come to find out tho, the zig-zag method of escape is the subject of great debate. Zig-zag or make a 'beeline' to the closest cover - you make the call!

If bees attack you: L.A. County Agricultural Commissioner suggests:
- do not stay in one spot trying to remove bees with your hand
- leave area quickly..run in a fast zig/zag pattern away
- do not swat at bees as you are running - cover face; use clothes to protect eyes and mouth from bees
- seek shelter inside enclosures where bees cannot enter such as a car or building (lying down or huddling under clothing or partial protection generally will not help)

Insecta Inspecta answers; WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF ATTACKED?
· Africanized bees are slow fliers and most healthy people can out run them.
· Run away in a straight line, protecting your face. Avoid other people, or they too will be attacked.

All agree however that either way you leave the area, you need to run like Usain Bolt.

Others who survived the giant bee swarm...

One that didn't...

& one that I thought did until I realised it was not a skunk...

Robbie - What Verse Is This Now? *cough* - Williams

If Robbie Williams is going to continue to perform, he has got to rehearse more & smoke less.

He needs to give up the durries & learn his lyrics! I'm tired of him forgetting lyrics all the time. It's funny on occasion, especially Angels (how can anyone forget Angels?) since that's by far his most requested song & an alternate national anthem in Britain.

This public relations campaign for Reality Killed The Video Star (his latest album) has been less that stellar & some of the performances have just been embarrassing & insulting & cringeworthy.

Give up the fags Rob & pick up the lyrics sheet - you're beautiful voice is going to shit & your performances are worth a bit more respect from you than a cursory glance at the song book!

Who knows, if you went on stage knowing all the words you were about to sing, maybe your debilitating stage fright may not be so debilitating....just sayin'
